Early to Death, Early to Rise-Kim Harrison
This is the 2nd Madison Avery book, sequel to Once Dead, Twice Shy. Madison is the Dark Timekeeper, but she doesn’t believe in fate. Madison is given a scything of guy who’s going to put a computer virus in a hospital’s computer system, causing 3 people to die. She ends up finding the mark (marked to be scythed) at the mall working in a fast food place. It’s either Ace or Shoe. She thinks it’s Ace, Barnabas thinks it’s Shoe. Nakita goes with Madison and Ace. They find out that Ace is a graffiti artist, the one who made album covers for the illegally downloaded music that Shoe would hack. Ace is foul tempered. They end up going after Shoe, the techie one. Along the way, they’re trying to keep this all from the Light Timekeeper, Ron (Chronis) and his apprentice, Paul. After a flash forward, they have to hurry before Ron finds out. They follow Shoe to the school where he’s planning the virus-prank to shut down school for a day. They end up telling him too much, trying to stop him, but he already did it. Madison figures out it’s really Ace, so Madison comes up with a plan in order to get Shoe to patch up the hospital’s system. Madison plays dead-she already is dead! With a great confrontation and conflict that I will not spoil, I suggest you read this book for yourself!
It was really good. I love the reapers-angels theme. It’s pretty sweet! A fast read!

Radiant Shadows-Melissa Marr
Ani is a hound halfling with a hunger for both emotion and touch. This, as well as being able to feed off of both mortal and fey, makes her abnormal. Irial, Gabriel and Rabbit are all protective of her but know that she is very strong herself.
Devlin is the Bloodied Hands of the High Queen, he's her assassin. He was the 1st male fey, created by both Sorcha and Bananach, brother to both. Years ago Sorcha sent him to kill Ani, but Rae, a spectral mortal he met over a hundred years ago, convinced him not to.
When Ani and Devlin meet in a club, Ani kisses him and feeds herself. He feels drained and wonders what she is. Eventually he's falling in love with free spirited Ani and here are some highlights of this book:
-Rae, the spectral girl, she can walk in dreams of others.
-Sorcha, Bananach and Devlin can only see the futures of those not tied to them.
-Seth can see the future as a fey in the Mortal world.
-Irial's been doing experiments on Ani's blood, seeing if it can help the Dark court.
-Ani gets a steed! She names it Barry for Barracuda. I thought it was cool.
-The High Court's queen Sorcha kinda unbalenced now. The Unchanging Queen has changed.
-Ani & Devlin take Barry across the country for Ani's safety and when they stop at a rest stop, it's funny when Devlin almost walks into the girl's room. Ani tells the other lady in there that Dev's just shaken up cuz he's sensitive. lol
-Ani & Dev stay in a hotel for a night.
-Sorcha asks Rae to walk into some artists dreams.
-Faerie falls apart while Sorcha's sleeps to dream about her "son" Seth.
-Dev & Ani save faerie by bring Seth to wake the queen.
-Devlin & Ani start the Shadow Court!
That's about all I can think of. I had a hard time reading it because it's in 3rd person. I just have a short attention span when it comes to boring books. I'll give it at least 1 star, though for the funny parts.

Thirst No. 2-Christopher Pike
I love this book series. It's so easy to read. It's non-stop action and it has a ton of twists. I highly recommend it to all the vampire fans out there.
Sita's story continues in these three books: SPOILER ALERT!
In Phantom, after Sita becomes human again, Ray comes back from the dead and he and Sita move into a house together. Sita becomes pregnant with her daughter. She meets Paula, another pregnant girl. Sita is only pregnant for about 2 months in all, the growth of the baby is accelerating. When her daughter is born violently, she is name Kalika, she who destroys. Kalika is part vampire and needs blood, so Sita regretfully tricks a boy into coming home with her. His blood feeds Kalika. Kalika is fully grown within a couple week, looking about 20 years old. She is the incarnation of Kali Ma. She wants to see Paula's baby once he is born. Paula runs with the baby soon after. Sita uses some of the baby's blood with Yaksha's too make her a vampire again. She faces her daughter and Seymour is stabbed. Sita heals him with the rest of the baby's blood she had from the hospital.
In Evil Thirst, Sita meets Dr. Seter and James. They have a scripture that Suzama, an old friend of Sita's from Egypt and she could see the future, wrote and Sita wants to see it. It mentions that Krishna, Jesus and this baby all have the same soul. It mentions the Dark Mother, Kali Ma. Kalika is still after the baby and they all end up at Lake Tahoe. Sita finds out who James (Ory) really is only after her daughter is fatally injured.
In Creatures of Forever, Sita finds out that some aliens from another dimension have her blood. They are the Setian for back in Egypt, lizard beings. Alanda, an old friend of Sita that she doesn't remember assists Sita in going back in time only in soul to stop Landolf from ever getting her blood. She goes back to when she saves Dante whose a leper. She plays out what happened as it should until the confrontation, where she kills Landolf only to find out Dante is the real Landolf. She doesn't give him her blood.
In the end, Sita goes back to when Yaksha was born and stabs his infant body.
She has changed her path. She will not become a vampire. So, how come there's a Thirst No. 3 if there are no vampire anymore?

Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception-Maggie Stiefvater
Deirdre Monaghan, a teen harpist, meets Luke Dillon at a music competition. Luke was the guy from her dream and it's weird to meet him in real life. Dee best friend's name is James and he plays bag pipes. He tells her that he's psychic later on. Luke's pretty cryptic and Dee falls in love with him over the next few summer day after her birthday. She's starts to get mixed up in the faerie world as she runs into fey creature and a freckle face faerie man. Dee's Granna gave her an iron ring, and Luke gave her an iron key for protection. It's mentioned many times that Deirdre is incredibly talented in music as well as in her newly found telekinetic ability. She's a cloverhand after all (and she always find four leaf clovers, but doesn't really need them anymore. She can see faeries all by herself). There's a lot of twists and turn I don't want to spoil or maybe I'm just too lazy to type them.
I liked this book though I couldn't pay much attention to it. It took me only 2 days to read and it's 325 pages long. There is a sequel called Ballad. I better look out for that.

The Reckoning-Kelley Armstrong
How would you feel if you were a genetically altered supernatural being on the run from evil scientists who want you dead so they can correct their mistake of ever making you? Chloe Saunders is afraid. She can’t trust anyone except Derek, Simon and Tori who are a werewolf, a sorcerer and a witch. Chloe’s a necromancer who’s been altered to be much more powerful than any necro has ever been. At any second she can accidentally raise the dead just by summoning. Most necromancers have to have special herbs just to summon a ghost, but Chloe apparently doesn’t need any of that. According to a ghost, her glow is very bright so she attracts ghosts easily. The only thing keeping her glow down to a normal necro’s glow is the amulet her mom gave her when she was little, but sadly, is doesn’t stop her from accidentally bringing dead animal back into their carcasses when she gets jumpy and nervous. Tori is a witch and probably half sorcerer too. She’s Simon’s half sister, though she doesn’t know it. She’s very brave, bold and sarcastic. She can hack a computer as well as kick butt. She can do spells without any practice or cantations. All she has to do is see a spell caster do a spell and she can mimic it. She can do binding spells, energy balls and a few other helpful things so far, but she’s learning fast. Derek is a werewolf and the brother that Chloe truly likes. He’s extremely protective and a bit anti-social. He’s strong and fast and he finally completes his change into a black wolf in this book. He used to be very bitey and rude, mean to Chloe, but only for her own protection. He’s also very smart. He’s good at math and science and he’s always logical. I’m a bit confused why Chloe likes him so much, but I guess once he turned into a wolf and she realized that he wasn’t a monster, but just an alpha kind of guy, she realized that she did love him. He brought heat to her heart. Simon who’s Derek’s “brother” is a sorcerer. He’s not very powerful like the others, but maybe that’s because he wasn’t part of the experiments. He’s just a normal, young sorcerer. He’s very nice to Chloe and he has a crush on her too, so he was jealous when he realized that Chloe liked Derek. He’s half Korean and likes to draw comics, which I think is cool. He and Chloe were working on a graphic novel of their adventures. Simon is diabetic and a feel sorry for him that he’s on the run with them and has to check his blood sugar all the time. It just seems very inconvenient, but he’ll be fine. ~*Haley*
I love this book series: Darkest Powers. I love the whole kids-with-powers-on-the-run-from-evil-scientist theme. I recommend this to anyone who loves supernatural fiction and a good ghost story or horror flick.
*SPOILER ALERT*
Chloe Saunders is a 15-year-old necromancer. She's on the run with her friends from an evil corporation know as the Edison Group. They meet up with Andrew, an old friend of Simon's dad. They are staying in a big house with his that used to be owned b the founder of the resistance against the Group. Andrew brings in a few Supernaturals who can help train them. Margaret is a necromancer that could pass for Chloe's grandmother (since Chloe temporarily dyed her hair black in the last book). Gwen is a witch who is very nice and young looking. Russel's a shaman who knows quite a bit about werewolves. After Margaret bring Chloe to a cemetery for training and asks Chloe to summon, Chloe accidentally opens a hole in the ground and the dead begin to rise. She realizes the Chloe is much more of a threat than they thought.
Chloe has feelings for Derek and Simon's a bit jealous. Chloe help Derek through his complete change into a wolf and they are attacked by Ramon and Liam.
After going though Margaret's deleted files, Tori finds out something very important. Andrew and Margaret are in on the whole thing. Andrew's trying to send Derek to the Pack. No one can be trusted and Tori looks through Andrew's files before they all decide to escape. The escape plan fail when a few other Supernatural show up. Chloe tries to create a diversion and find out that there are men securing the area. Back in the house, Margaret kills Gwen and then Chloe witnesses her killing Andrew. Chloe and Tori wind up back at the labs and Chloe calls a demi-demon to help rescue her Aunt and her friends. Later Tori's mom is killed and raised, instructed to kill Dr. Davidoff by Chloe. Kit (Simon's dad) shows up. They all go on the run again. The end!

The Immortal Realm-Frewin Jones
This is the 4th book of The Faerie Path series. Tania tries to bring the Mortal and Immortal Realms together by letting her mortal parents come to a Faerie wedding. A baby gets sick and dies after the wedding and since that hasn't happened in thousands of years in Faerie, they set the blame on Tania since she brought her sick mortal father there. The sick are put in the Gildensleep and a "Healer" from Alba comes to help, but really he's a fake and starts blaming Tania, so Tania might be banished for eternity because of his act. Tania brings Conner from London and he's a med student but he fails to cure Cordelia. Eden says that the sickness isn't mortal so Tania, Rathina and Conner set out on a quest to find the Lost Caer. They must find out where it is from a forbidden hall of records and then go to the Lost Caer and find out how to stop the plague and save Faerie from the devastation.
BEST. FAERIE PATH. BOOK. YET!!!!!!!! I read it in less than 2 days and it's 341 pages long. Rathina's pretty funny. I think it would be awesome for her to pair up with Conner. Can't wait to read The Enchanted Quest.

Fang-James Patterson
(A Journal Entry by Max or a fanfic by Haley—SPOILER ALERT!!!)
Dear Diary…um…I mean Journal. (Diary sounds too sappy.)
I don’t want Fang to die, and I’m glad he didn’t. I just wish he didn’t leave me. I mean, he said it was so I could be my best “leaderness.” Dr. G-H and the Voice…They’re both wrong. I need Fang. I love Fang. Without him…I don’t know. I just hope that he’ll come back. Dylan sacrificed himself for us, and it’s hard to believe, even harder than believe that he was my “perfect other half.” Maybe he was. I’m sick of the Voice and fanatical white coats telling me things I don’t want to hear. As cheesy as it sounds, Fang is my one true love. I just know it. I grew up with him. He used to make fun of the white coats while he was trapped in the dog crate next to mine. We would laugh together despite our situation.
But, life must go on. I’m the Flock’s leader once again, and I must make tough choices and sacrifices for the ones I love to survive. If that means never seeing Fang again, I guess I’ll have to deal with it. If Dr. Goony-Loony is right, and the Apocalypse is really coming, then we will do what we have to do to survive. Note to self: Doing what we have to do to survive does not include injecting miracle reactants created by mad scientists.
Other than Fang leaving and then almost dying and then leaving for good, the past few weeks have been completely ludicrous. We went to Africa where Mr. Chu disappeared into a tent and Jeanne healed herself. Then we met Dr. God (My favorite nickname for Dr. G-H.) and Angel predicted that Fang was going to be the first to die and then Dylan came a long and ruined everything. Then we came back home and I attempted to educate the Flock. Angel made everyone except Fang vote me off as flock leader and then she took over and dragged them all to Hollywood while me and Fang flew off to Los Vegas. When we came to find them in Hollywood, their skin was more blemished that a teenage troll. It was disgusting to know that Dr. G-H’s reactant caused that. And then Angel. I swear she is grounded for life! (Since I’m the leader and I say so!) She pointed a gun at me, threatened to kill me! Hello? What happened to the sweet Angel I used to know. She’s over seven and she wants to overtake my awesomeness. I guess maybe they Flock’s just growing up. But…I truly hope Fang does come back so we can be together.

Token of Darkness-Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Ever since the eight-car pile up that Cooper was in, he has been haunted by a color coordinationally challenged ghost of a teenage girl. He also can see shadows and can push people out of their body. Samantha (the "ghost" that can't remember he past) wants to be alive. Cooper goes to the library to see if he can figure out how to help her. There he meets Brent. Brent can read minds and he dated Delilah who was a friend of Cooper. Delilah practices sorcery. Brent takes Cooper to Ryan le Coire, a very powerful sorcerer who may be able to help him. Delilah figures out that Samantha is a water elemental with no idea of what she is. Delilah ends up in the hospital after almost drowning because she tried to exchange mortality with Samantha. There's a bit of a body mix up and the ending, I cannot say.
Honestly, one of the funniest and most exciting books by this author. It's only 197 pages long and I read it in one day. I really loved it and recommend it. It's supernaturally awesome!

Raven has to find Alexander. He left without a word. Now she's sure he's a vampire, but does she want to be a vampire anymore? Not yet. After finding out that Jameson called from the Coffin Club, Raven goes to Hipsterville to find him and Alexander, but they're not there. She meets Jagger, whom she finds out is a vampire too. Raven goes back to Alexander's mansion and she finds them and Alexander and Jagger fight. Jagger is scared off only after at temping to bite Raven. Alexander and Jagger later fight at the Drive-In. This book is also a very short, funny read. Only 165 pages long. I started it this morning and am done. I guess I'll check out the rest of the series.

Betrayals-Lili St. Crow
This is the second book in the Strange Angels series.
Dru Anderson is sent to the Schola for her own protection after she finds out about her djamphir (half vampire) heritage. The Schola is an all-boys training facility which makes Dru feel like an outsider. She's not allowed outside of the school, but she does escape a few times. Christophe come back, which makes her feel a bit better, but then she finds out that there's a traitor in the Order and Christophe is a suspect. Graves (the Goth-Boy turned skin changer) is making friends with werwulfen.
The schola is attacked twice, the second time a Burner sets it on fire. Dru, Graves, Christophe and a few other werwulfen escape and set of for another safe place. Dru's in danger and no one can be trusted.
I recommend this series to fans of Vampire Academy or Maximum Ride. But, beware of the small text on each page. It's not very easy to read, but I got through it and still like the characters. Dru is a cool, tough character.
Pop Lit Journal:
Dru and Graves and even Christophe have their own saying or “catch phrases”. Things they seem to say repeatedly that make it easy to distinguish who’s saying what when dialog doesn’t include “I said” or “he said.” Dru has her saying in her thought too, of course, because this novel is written in first person. Since Dru grew up in Florida, she has some very southern saying that she picked up from her Gran or dad. She swears a lot, but I won’t go into that. Whenever she’s desperate she thinks “oh, God” or “Jesus.” Whenever something seems too make sense, she thinks, “go figure.” Twice in the same paragraph she described how male werwulfen and male djamphirs will change at “the drop of a hat.” Her father or Gran’s voice would always come to her mind with advice or their own little sayings they used to say to Dru. She also has a lot of thoughts about how she doesn’t like being told what to do or thoughts how she doesn’t want to ruin her tough-girl image. Out of all the books I’ve read, this series has had the most italicized thoughts from the main character I’ve ever seen. Some of the things she says a lot sarcastically are “gee, thanks” and “peachy.” She’s a very stubborn and sarcastic character.
Graves (Goth Boy turned Skin-changer) has his own little phrases. “First one’s free,” is like his motto or something. In Strange Angels he said it like twenty -something times, in this book only about three times. He’s very generous, especially to Dru. He obviously likes her even though she kind of ruined the life he had before they came to the Schola. He said he liked the Schola better, anyways. At least they feed him there. He’s a really nice, smart guy even though he smokes and he’s Goth. He is pretty much Dru’s best friend now, and has potential to be her boyfriend too. Whenever something’s wrong he says, “Christ” or even “Jesus.”
Christophe has the tendency to say things in what I think is Russian. I seriously wish the author put a glossary in the back of this book so I knew what Christophe was calling Dru half the time. He calls Dru his “little bird” in English and possibly in Russian. Since Christophe is older than he looks since he is half vampire, I was able to tell his age from the way he spoke. He sounded like he must be about a hundred years old since he spoke like an old man or like an old-time romantic. Dru didn’t realize he was so old, but I thought it was sort of obvious. How would a teen know so much about her mother?
